What is the 28th Special Tactics Unit?

In Character We Are:

A specialized unit of the SGC (StarGate Command) commissioned with a singular modus operandi in mind. As with all SG teams, we are tasked with discovering new worlds, new peoples, and new technologies. But unlike other SG teams, we carry out this objective with a more focused underlying philosophy.

Our goal is to fully and completely integrate the tactics, techniques, and philosophies of all the races of which the SGU (StarGate Union) is comprised. This level of alliance between Humanity, Jaffa, and Asgard has never before been attempted. And it is our mission to discover and implement the most effective, unique, and integrated tactics possible utilizing all of the tools at our disposal from each of the allied races.

To accomplish this task, we seek to pull the best and the brightest from all races, all schools of thought, all areas of expertise. We have as much need for scientific minds and archaeology specialists as we have need for soldiers and commandos. They are all parts of what we hope to create as a better, brighter whole for the entire SGU.

Out Of Character We Are:

A group of people looking for a fun and rewarding roleplaying experience in our StarGate Worlds gameplay. We value the social connections we make out of character (OOC) as much as we enjoy bringing our characters to life in-character (IC). We have no interest in the power struggles so many guilds suffer from. Our goals are to tell a story, to make friends, and to have fun. We look forward to creating intricate plotlines, RP events that run parallel to the MMO gameplay, and providing as solid an environment as possible for creativity.

To this end, we are run in a somewhat different way than the standard guild hierarchy. Rather than one singular leader, we have five. And these five are dedicated to sharing the power and responsibility for this guild with others. We run on the philosophy that while we created this group, we do not have sole ownership of it. It belongs to everyone who is a dedicated part of it, and everyone's opinions and suggestions deserve due consideration.

Those appointed to leadership positions are not chosen due to how much they are liked. They are not chosen because of personal friendships. Every one of the people in leadership has earned this responsibility and title through months of hard work and selfless dedication to making the 28th STU the best place it can be.

In the interest of organization and fairness, everyone is encouraged to supply suggestions and concerns. The founder, as well as those in the leadership whom are appointed to those positions, will discuss and vote upon all issues pertaining to the guild's well-being. When a consensus is reached, it is handed down to the guild as a whole.

If these issues affect in-game activities, such as deciding on whom to promote, whom to award, or directions to follow on plot and RP-related things, then the consensus will be relayed to the group by means of a higher-ranking NPC official in the SGU chain of command than the highest Player Rank (which is Colonel Scarlet Echelon). This NPC is considered the group collective, and ultimately holds all the power. Not the 'leader', not the founder. For the Stargate universe, we have decided to make General O'Neill this NPC.

No system is perfect, and we do not expect this sytem to be, either. But it has worked well for us thus far, and we hope to continue that tradition.
